Membership Information

IBUM offers several different continuing education memberships to supplement current licenses and certifications. Diving Medical Physician (Officer), Diver Medical Technician (both Basic and Advanced) and Chamber Operations.

Each participant is required to attend an IBUM approved training program, which teaches physicians, allied medical, dive supervisors and dive rescue personnel:

•  Advanced chamber and medical techniques
•  Medical “fitness to dive” evaluation of dive candidates
•  Early recognition of the signs/symptoms of decompression
  illnesses
•  First aid procedures
•  Transportation and treatment of diving injuries
•  Adjunct pharmaceutical agents
•  Hyperbaric chamber operations and the use of gases
  during hyperbaric exposures
•  Use of medical equipment in the hyperbaric environment
  In order to become a member of the International Board of
  Undersea Medicine, applicants must submit a completed IBUM
  application and have attended an approved hyperbaric chamber
  operations course for all levels of certification.
